Excellent grinder for home at an excellent price
I purchased the Baratza Encore to upgrade from a manual grinder for my morning coffee. Very simple to assemble - just the hopper and the on/off dial to be added to the grinder unit after unpacking. I've only used the grinder 3 x times, but very happy with it so far. Simple to dial in the grind size - I've set it at 12, and am happy with the result brewing in the a stovetop Brikka. The design of the unit is functional and attractive, I chose the white unit - happy to have it sitting on the kitchen bench, and should be easy to maintain with a wipe over. I chose the Encore after reading lots of positive reviews, and it's suitability for use with a stovetop brewer, and potential for use with a drip brewer such as Moccamaster.

Worthy upgrade
Had the Bodum Bistro before this and the Baratza is just far superior. The grind is so much more consistent with less fines, plus I can grind the 250g of coffee I need per toddy cold brew batch I do in two passes rather than like 6, thanks to it’s ability to run longer than 20 seconds without overheating. Easy recommendation

Very happy coffee camper - simple and effective
I've been hand grinding with my Hario Skerton Pro for several years which is fine for a single Aeropress shot, but cold brew or coffee machine amounts were a literally a grind. I have been thinking about an electric grinder for a while, and the Baratza has been on my list. So I treated myself and bought this (price was good at the time). It arrived fairly promptly and well packed. So here is my experience after 2 weeks of use (that's 3 cups a day): - grind time is good. For my standard Aeropress shot I've gone from about 1 minute to about 15 seconds - The noise level is no worse (and actually better) than most motor based appliances. And the boiling kettle makes more noise! - grind setting adjustment is easy - just don't hold the hopper while grinding or you will move it. I might need to experiment with the standard setting...read more

No it does not. Baratza have since released a newer version of the Encore - the Encore ESP and this will grind for espresso.
Yes, you can try spritzing the beans with some water, known as RDT. The Ross Droplet Technique (RDT) is a method used in espresso preparation where a small amount of water is applied to coffee beans before grinding. This technique helps reduce static electricity and clumping of the coffee grounds, resulting in a more consistent grind size and improved extraction during brewing.
The Baratza Encore can grind as fine as 250µ and as coarse as 1200µ, and makes a great All-round Grinder.
For optimal grinder maintenance, if you frequently use dark roast beans, which tend to be oilier, it's advisable to clean your grinder more often, ideally once a month. However, if you prefer light roasts or use your grinder infrequently, you can likely extend the cleaning interval to once every three months. Adjusting the cleaning frequency based on the type of beans you use and your usage pattern helps maintain optimal grinder performance.
To clean the Baratza Encore grinder, follow these steps: Set the grinder to the coarsest setting to facilitate hopper removal. Lift out the hopper and carefully remove the small black rubber collar surrounding the white burr plate. Remove the top burr collar by lifting it straight out. Utilize the provided brush tool to clean the burr, ensuring to remove any coffee grounds or residues. Avoid washing with water to prevent rusting and corrosion. Use the brush tool to clear the grinder's chute of any blockages hindering coffee dispensing into the grind bin. Focus on the lower burr, which is not removable. Use the brush tool to clear away grounds around the burr as much as possible. Vacuum any dislodged debris. If necessary, use a long slim pick tool to reach deeper areas. Pay close attention to the chute's opening inside the burr chamber, as blockages frequently occur here. Use a pick, brush, and vacuum to clear any accumulated coffee buildup. Optionally, you can wash the hopper, rubber collar, and grind bin in warm soapy water, ensuring thorough drying before reinstalling. Following these steps will help maintain your Baratza Encore grinder in optimal condition.
